Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocco. Excessive drooling can be the result of nausea, mouth pain or a bad taste in the mouth. I will typically treat with anti-nausea medication to see if it helps. If not, make sure that he is not eating anything that he shouldn't (plants, etc). Finally, I will anesthetize the patient for a thorough oral exam, dental radiographs and clean the teeth. I hope this information helps!

I'm sorry Jinxy isn't doing well! This excessive drooling could be due to a dental problem such as a tooth root abscess, severe gingivitis, or a broken tooth. Pain from one of those conditions can caused him to be usually quiet. He could also be nauseous causing the drooling. I would have him seen by a vet for this excessive drooling. The vet can diagnose what is causing it and can prescribe a treatment for it. If he does have a dental problem, he will benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing.
