Are hot glue, popsicle sticks, and cardboard rolls safe for hamsters?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I actually have 2 questions that I would like to ask. First of all, is it fine to make hamster toys with hot glue? (I’ll let it cool down first so it’s not still sticky.) And second, can hamsters gnaw on/chew popsicles sticks and toilet paper rolls?

No. Hot glue is plastic nawed, so if your hamsters chews and ingests it, there is risk of obstruction. A PVA glue or any glue labeled as 'child safe' would be a better option. Cardboard tubes or rolls are safe and hamsters love shredding them or crawling through them. Popsicle sticks, when chewed, may expose a hamster to sharp splinters. For this reason they are not recommended.
