How to manage dog zoomies on leash walks, especially on busy streets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 30 lbs

My dog will randomly get the zoomies on leashed walks, often with no warning but especially when we’re crossing busy streets. She does not care if I turn my back on her or if I scold her. Any advice? Thank you!

Consider walking her in a quieter area away from traffic if possible. The noise/activity may spook her at times. A head harness, such as the Gentle Leader or Halti, will provide additional control on walks.
