My senior cat won't eat or drink for 2 days and is spitting up mucus.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 years and 6 months old | 6.2 lbs

10 yo female cat that has been inside for8 months. Due to chg in circumstances she was an inside/outside cat. Other than being a little stir-crazy, she has been ok. She has not been eating and drinking very little for 2 days. Does seem painful but has been spitting up mucus. I'm worried.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Bebe. Oh no, that is not good. It's actually very serious when a cat won't eat, and if they go 72 hours without eating, they will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. She is approaching that time now. The best thing you can do for her is take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!
