Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing their allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. All

If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Inky. I would consider asking about conservative treatment options. You can decline diagnostics due to cost and see if you veterinarian will treat her for the suspected inflammatory bowel disease. She could have nausea medication, a GI protectant for the dark stool and an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory properties. I think it is worth asking about this and seeing if it is an option for her. Hi, and thanks for your question. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infections and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. Unfortunately and ideally a clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Anti-inflammatory medications and antibiotics may be needed. Sometimes what can be done at home is to recognize and remove stressors (stress factors) and monitor for any improvement. You could try that in the meantime. Generally speaking disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). If you give us more details about the medicines you administered we can provide more specific advices on those as well. CJ really needs a vet visit when you can manage it. In older cats hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, inflammatory bowel disease are possibilities and require bloodwork to diagnose. The good news is many of the conditions can be treated or managed but you need a diagnosis in order to determine the best treatment.
