My newborn kittens are sneezing. Why is one less responsive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 days old

Mother cat had kittens on the third of march 2020 and had 4, two died leaving a boy and a girl. The father is also her brother due to lack of control, but the problem is the kittens sneezing frequently and it started 2 days ago on the ninth. They have gotten wetter and painful, only for the boy. The girl sneezes alot too but she doesnt seem to be in any pain. And since birth he has always been less responsive than her, and sleeps longer too it seems

It sounds like the kittens have an upper respiratory disease (virus). They need to see the vet. If the mom and dad were not vaccinated properly that is probably the cause. Please have the male and female cats fixed as soon as possible. Inbreeding is not a good idea. Here are two spay/neuter clinics in your area. You can do the male now and the female after the kittens are weaned. https://www.eugene-or.gov/1214/Surgery-and-Vaccinations https://wagwag.org/services/surgeries/
