Is eucalyptus safe for my dog if it's in a vase or steaming shower?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 15 lbs

I have fresh eucalyptus in my kitchen in a vase. I also want to hang some in a shower to steam. I know it’s toxic to dogs if ingested, but is it ok to have in a vase/shower with Jack in the same room?

Diffusing eucalyptus around dogs can be harmful if it's used for a long period of time within a small space. If it is a large space and you do it for a short time it may be OK. Remember, a dog's nose is 5 times more sensitive to smells than ours so I'm sure you can see how it may be irritating to the nasal passages, sinuses and lungs. If your dog has any underlying breathing problems, it's best to avoid using it at all.
