My cat's eye is squinting and pink. Is it an injury or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I noticed that Coco’s left eye has been squinting a bit. It also looks like the inner corners of her lashline is pink compared to the right eye. Is this a cause for concern? What are possible causes? I’m afraid that I might have hit her eye while playing with a feather toy.

Coco could have an eye infection, or could have a scrape or ulcer on her eye - this is a very common injury! There can be more "internal" eye problems that cause squinting too - glaucoma, uveitis, etc. External problems such as injury and infection are the most common in cats, however. It's best to have Coco seen by the vet to make sure the cause of the squinting is identified and properly treated.
