Why is my parakeet lethargic, can't walk, and has no foot grip?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 7 months old

My parakeet sits at the bottom of the cage all the time. He eats well. We feed him coriander leaves, Fenugreek and seeds which is his favourite diet. He used to be very active but now he's very lethargic. There's something wrong with his feet as he is not able to walk properly or climb. There is no gripping in his feet. I took him to the vet but he wasn't sure of the issue as he eats well. He is 6years old. Please find out a way to cure him, i really want to see healthy Romeo(his name).

Thanks for reaching out about Romeo and including photos. By the appearance of the feet, this is probably articular gout, an indication of kidney problems. A veterinary visit is highly recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some comfort. Good luck.
