My 8-week puppy has diarrhea after eating a bully stick. What to do?

Our 8 weeks old puppy has been having runny diarrhea for a few hours. She chewed on a bully stick for a few hours, her diet has been normal otherwise.

It could be the bully stick has upset her stomach. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

If she begins to exhibit any of the above mentioned symptoms, I would get her seen by a veterinarian for an examination and to have abdominal x-rays taken to make sure that there is no intestinal obstruction from the bully stick. My dog ate a bully bone yesterday and seemed fine. Took him out today and he had diarrhea and it looked like blood mixed. Kinda dark but also red. He has eaten and he was just playing ball. Not acting out of the ordinary.
It could be that the bully bone upset Tornado’s stomach leading to the diarrhea with blood in it. Given he’s otherwise acting normal, I can give you a home remedy for him. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts a couple of times a day for several days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet diet. If the diarrhea continues in the absence of food, he has diarrhea on the bland diet, there is still blood in his feces, he stops eating, starts vomiting, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, and/or becomes very lethargic, take him into a vet immediately. The diarrhea could be due to eating your underwear, so there is a chance there could be an obstruction, but it could also be that it upset his stomach. I would try a home remedy first before worrying, and if it doesn't work, I'd take him into the vet. It sounds like Hershey is suffering from diarrhea, and in young puppies, that can commonly be caused by intestinal worms. Make sure she is up to date on her deworming treatments, giving her one if she is not. She should be dewormed again in two weeks to kill all the worms in her intestines, then monthly until she is six months of age. After that, she should be dewormed every three months. I can also give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps her. Withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
