Can a puppy be introduced to older cats who've never met dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 14 lbs

My ex-husband wants to introduce a puppy into his home with our Two cats: 14 and 10 years old. I think he’s making a mistake since the cats have never lived with dogs. He says he’s read up on how to introduce a canine into a home with felines. I’m nervous. What’s your opinion? Thanks.

It is not easy to get them used to a new routine, especially with a puppy and considering they are already adult/senile cats. Personally I think it is not going to be an easy introduction and it is possible they will never get used to each other.
