Is it better to euthanize two sick senior pets at once or separately?

It sounds like she may have some arthritis pain which can be managed by medications from your vet. Also, they can discuss getting her teeth cleaned and determine if she is blind. Being blind does not decrease her quality of life- blind dogs can adapt very easily. If it is determined that Ruby should be euthanized, I would not jump to euthanizing Hagrid at the same time. I would look at G's quality of life in make the decision as to when to euthanize him. If he's in pain, losing weight, having diarrhea, detached, and head pressing, his quality of life isn't very good. When a cat is in constant pain, they will be suffering daily, and in my opinion, that is when it is time to let them go peacefully. It's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet, and they are often ready to go before we are ready to let them go. If he's not doing at least two of them, then his quality of life has decreased to a point where humane euthanasia should be considered. Having him euthanized is a valid option if his quality of life is not good. If he cannot control his bowels and is not able to eat, that is not a happy life for him. Older cats can have liver, kidney disease and diabetes that can cause illness. You may want to have a vet examine him to see what the treatment options maybe before making that difficult decision. They can tell you want to expect long term to see what his quality of life will be like if he starts on a treatment. You know him better than anyone, so you will be able to know best how happy he currently is.

I'm really sorry to hear about poor Memi. The combination of these two conditions are often difficult to treat and can be very disheartening. I would first recommend asking your veterinarian about any more potential treatment options and how long they think he may survive given his current condition. Complete loss of both hearing and vision can be quite challenging and many dogs can experience a good bit of associated anxiety associated with this dramatic change in their lifestyle. I agree with you in that it sounds as though Valentino's quality of life is likely poor as a result of these changes. Deciding when to euthanize is an exceptionally difficult and personal decision because there are so many factors to consider. If Valentino still seems to enjoy your company and is able to do his normal things (e.g. find the water bowl on his own, play a bit, navigate your home without too much difficulty, etc.), then it may be worthwhile to give him a bit more time.
