My 16-year-old dog had a seizure. What should I do immediately?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 76 lbs

This morning it seemed that my dog who is about 16 years old experienced a seizure. This is the first time she had these issues. Went to let her out the bedroom to get some water and she just laid there. She was panting and had some drool. Problem is it lasted for about 10 minutes to where we had to move her on to her bedding. She has seemed to be fine since just concerned due to her age. What would be your best advice in this situation?

I would have Sugar Bear seen by a vet as soon as possible. If she seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near her mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor her at all times during the seizure to ensure that she cannot hurt herself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately
