Why is my cat acting wild and destructive after neuter surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 10 lbs

Cat, male, 1 year old, six hours and counting since he arrived home from his neuter. No bleeding or excess swelling. Cat is literally destroying the house trying to escape his own butt. Please advise.

I suggest you call the vet. Many vets put a local anesthetic in the testicular cord during surgery. The local may have worn off and then it was painful so he is running away from the pain. Unfortunately they don't understand what is happening. Maybe the vet can dispense some pain medications for you to give him for a couple days.
