Will my pregnant rat's mycoplasma affect her babies? Can I prevent it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rat | Female | unspayed

I have two rats and I believe one is pregnant. My biggest concern is that she has recently had a mycoplasma flare-up. Will this affect the babies, and if so, is there anything I can do to prevent this? She's currently being treated for the infection.

Thanks for reaching out about Vegas. The only was that laboratory facilities prevent the spread of mycoplasma to offspring, is via ceasarian section and hand rearing babies in a clean room, not practical. So low stress, good nutrition, but babies will be exposed. Be careful using the antibiotics as some will cross the placenta into fetuses or through mammary glands. Good luck.
