My 8-month-old Blue Heeler hasn't had first heat. Is she fertile?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 3 days old

I have a full blood blue heeler and she is 8 months in age. I know she should of had her first heat as early as 4 months or 6 months of age but she hasn't had it yet. I'm a little concerned if she is able to have a litter of puppies

Some pets can be a bit delayed with their first heat cycle. I wouldn’t be concerned about her not being able to have a litter just yet. Give her until she is about 10 months of age and if she hasn’t had a heat cycle by then, it wouldn’t hurt to get her examined by your vet to look into possible underlying causes, especially if you are certain she hasn’t already been spayed. Best of luck with your pup Sadie moving forward. Take care.
