My puppy is bloated after overfeeding, won't eat. Is his stool okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 9 days old | 3 lbs

We adopted a 5 week old Lab into our family on Saturday. We just started mixing hard puppy food with his wet food last night and my son double fed him. His stomach is bloated and he did not eat this morning. He still used the bathroom, drank water, and played. Should we be worried? I also have a concern regarding his stool. Since we got him his stool is a red dirt brown and almost like soft serve ice cream. It has a form until you pick it up, but it's not diarrhea.

The coloration of the stool may be due to the diet he is eating. As long as it is not blood I would not be overly worried. In regards to the bloat, he could have a food bloat if he was double fed. If he is acting otherwise normally (not vomiting) I recommend you skip a meal and then at the next meal after that feed only 1/2 ration. If he doesn't want to eat, he needs to see a vet. If he is vomiting he needs to see a vet.
