My dog vomited, won't eat, lethargic, rapid breathing. No vet nearby!

My 24lb mini schnauzer/fox terrier vomited a large amount last night... hasnt really ate today...since I came at 3pm... i have seen him drink water once...hasnt pottied since i have been home. I have no emegency vet open near me. Normally he his super energetic but not today. His breathing goes from normal to rapid and back to normal

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Max. Poor boy. He does sound pretty sick, you can try a home remedy. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If there isn't an ER clinic in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Max is sick and not feeling well. His vomiting could be caused by a severe GI illness, eating something rotten or toxic, a foreign body, or pancreatitis to name a few causes. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. I have a 14 months old Caucasian Shepherd and for the past 2 days he hasn't eaten anything, he doesn't want to play, he doesn't want to do anything, I tried giving him rice with chicken but he doesn't want to eat it and all the veterinary clinics are
It is hard to state exactly what to do to make Max feel better. He really needs a veterinarian to perform a physical examination on him and some diagnostics. If there is an emergency veterinarian in your area I would recommend bringing him there. I would ask neighbors to see if there is someone open right now. I am concerned if Max does not get help he will continue to decline. I hope Max feels better soon and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

With Piper's age, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may be dehydrated from vomiting and may need fluid administration to help rehydrate her. I would recommend having her blood tested to ensure there are no systemic changes that are abnormal that could be contributing to the vomiting. If you are unable to get to the veterinarian right away, I would withhold food for at least 8 hours and then initiate a bland diet as outlined below. Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese.
