My street cat is very sick, not eating. Is there hope for recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Feral | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 2 months old

In Bangladesh. Vets are available but not means of exams, & we don't have the money for it, anyway. It's just a street cat, but has become a favorite. Vomited for 2 days ev. 2 hrs., took to Animal Hosp. & got anti-emetic, antibiotic injections, IV fluid for sub q admin. Has only eaten small bits of meat on 3/3 since 2/23. Given 200cc sub q in divided doses qd. Diarrhea, losing wt. Given rice saline w/ syringe, 3-5 ml cpl x/day. Best to put him out of his misery, or hope of recovery? Thank you. A

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Copper isn't feeling well. There are a lot of things there could be going on with Copper, but without full testing it is hard to know which problem it is. I would say if your treatment hasn't helped in 24-48 hours after starting, or things are getting worse, there is a concern it won't help. If you are unable to help him more and hes getting worse, I would consider euthanasia so he doesn't suffer. Good luck to you and Copper!

I'm sorry Copper isn't doing well! Being at the vet is the best thing possible for him, and I would keep him there as long as the vet wants and follow the vet's treatment plan. That's the best advice I can give without seeing him in person. I hope he gets better soon.
