My pregnant dog won't eat kibble. Should I worry about her puppies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 70 lbs

Its day 48 of her gestation period and getting bigger day by day,she is eating only chicken but not interested in kibble from last 2 to 3 days.I am really excited as well as worried about her because her last litter was not good, she was not eating so she had her 8 puppies and 2 unformed puppies on day 55 out of 8 only 1 puppy able to survive.she was totally out of milk just after birth of puppies. Is this thing happened because she popped out puppies 8 days before her due date.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Netra. There is no way to know why the puppies did not survive. Testing can be done on the deceased puppies and samples sent to a laboratory. If this was not done, then there is not a way to know what went wrong. There is wide range in due dates as well depending on the timing of breeding. I recommend encouraging her to eat as much as possible. A high quality puppy food is a great option of optimal nutrition. She needs to drink water as well. I hope this information helps!
