My old dog has a perianal lump. Should I treat it at 15 years old?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 13 years and 7 months old

I believe my dog has Perianal Adenoma but because of his age I was wondering if it actually worth treating it. He is coming up to 15 years old and it doesnt seem to be causing him any pain or discomfort yet and he is eating fine and acting normal

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the mass is small and not causing any problems, one option would be to leave it alone and keep an eye on it. The other option is to remove it now while it is small and manageable for surgery so that it is not something that is much larger that must be removed in a couple of years when Baxter will be older. I hope this helps!
