My cat got a corneal ulcer after surgery. Can ketamine cause this?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, my cat recently hat surgery on his left upper back/leg due to a small wound from a suspected cat fight. He came out of the surgery with a corneal ulcer. The vet said that this sometimes happens after surgery due to ketamine but i am unable to find anything related so I wanted to check if this is true or if I should follow up with the vet. Thank you!

I have not heard of Ketamine causing any corneal ulcerations. Either your cat had that ulcer prior (likely from the cat fight) but only starting showing symptoms after the surgery or the eye got dried out during the anesthesia to fix the back leg. Either way, the eye needs to be treated so if you don't have medication already please call your vet.
