Why did my dog suddenly have short, forceful breaths then seem fine?

For about 5 mins last night, maybe less, my dog started breathing short, forceful,shallow breaths. Ended almost as suddenly as it began. What could cause this? Today she seems fine and slept fine after the incident. Eating and drinking as normal. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 2 months old | 85 lbs

This could have been caused by many things including: reverse sneezing due to irriation of the throat, panting due to pain, underlying heart disease or a primary lung disorder. Then you should certainly see your vet for further testing to definitively diagnose the underlying problem and start treatment right away.
