My dog keeps spitting up clear or yellow liquid. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 15.6 lbs

Lately, my dog sometimes splutters and sprays some spit up - seems to be clear or maybe slightly yellowish, consistency like water or spit. Should I be concerned? Could it be her greenies causing it?

Frequent spit up episodes in dogs can be caused by acid refulx, inflammatory bowel disease or the beginning stages of something more serious underlying like kidney disease. I would suggest that you take Luna to your vet for an overall health assessment at this point, since the spits ups have happened more than one occasion. It is best to get her seen and make sure she is ok moving forward. The greenies should not continuously causing spit up episodes if they have been removed from her diet and she still continues to vomit for more than 24 hrs. I hope that Luna's condition improves soon! Best of luck and take care.
