My Chihuahua has a tummy pouch after hernia surgery. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3.5 lbs

1. The vet said that my dog got hernia inguinal. She was operated last 2 years. I think her hernia got worsen, proved by her getting a big pouch on her tummy, in the same place where she got operated before. Considering that she was 7 years old now, and she was a mini Chihuahua, that weight less than 2 kg, should she operated again? 2. As she get older, she got a lot of new black spots all around her body, that she never got before. Is this normal? What should i gave her to prevent more spots?

Inguinal hernias are serious and should always be repaired as intestines can get stuck in there. If it is an umbilical hernia it may or may need to be repaired depending on the size. It is best to have her examined by your vet. They will be able to tell you more after examining her. The black spots are likely normal pigment change of the skin as the dog ages. There is nothing you can give or do to prevent them.
