Why is my cat always hungry, losing weight, and losing hair?

My cat is about7yrs old he eats canned food (friskies) and dry cat kibble..seems to be hungry constantly..had lost alot of weight this winter..hair loss around his back legs..coughs and gags like he has hairball..gave him medicine for hairball..very concerned.. Cats that are losing weight despite eating often have a thyroid condition although there could be other reasons like diabetes or kidney disease which are also common. I suggest you have Simba to your vet for an exam and some blood testing.
