My betta fish died with a white film and gill tumor. What caused it?

Pet's info: Fish | Betta | Male

My betta Koda just passed away this morning on 2-27-20 at 4:30am I think he has slime disease as he has grayish white film on his body do not know if you can see in picture I hadn't noticed it when he was alive but knew he had gill tumor

Sorry for your loss. I would check water parameters for pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Sub-standard water quality can result in increased dermal mucous production and the white sheen. Neoplasia can also result in metabolic changes causing skin changes also.
