My kitten is a picky eater and throws up. How can I fix their diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 12 days old | 4 lbs

I have few things about kitten feeding. I'm new to the kitten world and I try my best to get my kittens healthy! I have 2 kittens; "Toast" and "Smokey" Toast loves chicken and canned food but we cant really afford canned food all the time so we always give her boiled chicken breasts. She hates dry food and does not want to eat it. Smokey, eat all and I'm happy about it but, he sometimes throws up some of it and I am scared. Their food is given 4 times a day 6hrs between meals. What to do?

Sweet little kittens! I'm sorry we weren't able to get to your question sooner. A kitten food is needed for both of them; boiled chicken breast is fine as a part of the diet but shouldn't be the sole food... isn't nutritionally balanced the way a kitten food is. You can moisten kibble with water, broth, or tuna juice, and Toast may like that. Thank you for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
