Could gabapentin cause my cat's dry, flaky skin and hair loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

My cat has been on gabapentin for just over a week now for arthritis pains and I’ve noticed she has a pretty large patch of dry flaking skin on her side. The skin and hair seem to be coming out in tufts. Her skin doesn’t look irritated. Could this be from the gabapentin or just stress from going to the vet 3 times in 2 weeks.

I have never heard of gabapentin causing any skin reactions. I would not be overly worried about it unless the problem continues or gets worse. If you would like to post again with some photos of the affected area we can maybe help you better.
