My ball python has retained eye caps. What's the best way to help?

So my ball python just arrived two days ago (he's a rescue, about seven years old and close to four-ish feet in length) and I noticed his eyes look like they have clear, dried scales covering them. they look like retained eyecaps and the person I got him from said his eyes look like that even after he sheds. it doesn't look normal and Im not sure what I need to do.. I would get a picture but he won't let me see his eyes yet. Pet's info: Reptile | Python | Male | 7 years and 1 month old

By your description, it could be retained eye caps. Some snakes that go through difficult sheds or have been subjected to poor husbandry may retain multiple caps. Try soaking him in a warm bath for 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, use a cotton swan to dab a drop of mineral oil onto each eye. One or more caps should come off within 24 hours. If not, have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.
