My dog's ear is torn after an attack. Will it heal without surgery?

My dog got attacked and has a tear on his ear from the tip inwards. The tear is about an inch long. Theres no skin or meat missing . Will his ear heal back together or separate? I saw a vet and he said theres a good chance itll heal together but if not he will have to cut his ear and stitch it closed. Which I'd rather avoid. Please help. Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 14 days old
