Why is my hamster jumpy, bar biting, and chattering teeth in her cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female

Our hamster gets very jumpy in her cage and has been bar biting a little bit, she has a large cage with two wheels and goes in her exercise ball 4-5 times a week. She is better while handling but flinches in her cage, especially after it being cleaned. She also chatters her teeth a lot. Would any aroma help her feel more safe and relaxed?

I would say Luna sounds stressed for some reason. Teeth chattering is how many hamsters communicate that they do not want to be bothered or touched. I suggest you refer to the links below for some ideas of what to do for her. You could also try some Rescue Remedy.
