My cat has enema liquid on her fur. Is it safe to clean or bathe her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi there! My cat went to the vet today for constipation and the vet gave her an enema. She was in her carrier when we picked her up and we didn’t notice this until we got home and the vet is closed. Her whole hind side is covered in the enema liquid and is matted. Is it safe for her to clean herself or do we need to give her a bath?

Poor girl. It is best to give her a mini bath since we don't know what kind of enema the vet gave her. If she tolerates it just give her a washcloth bath that will minimize her stress. Even if you don't use shampoo and water only, it is ok since you are just trying to remove the enema contents. I hope that your furry friend's constipation issues don't become a chronic issue moving forward. Best of luck and take care.
