Why is my dog uncomfortable with other dogs sniffing his rear end?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 14 years and 6 months old

I have 14 yr old staff border collie cross unneutered who has never been comfy with other dogs sniffing his bum. I know this is a polite way for dogs to greet each other, so what could have made Boo-boo so uncomfortable with this.? I've not come across this in any other dogs that I know, would be interested in knowing what you think might have caused him to be this way.

Without a complete history, it is near impossible to determine what may have happened to make Booboo respond in this way. It could have been a past traumatic experience or it may simply be old age changes. Since you know he is uncomfortable, try to prevent other dogs from approaching him in this manner in the future.
