My senior hamster's abscess isn't healing. What can I apply?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | 1 year and 9 months old

Hello . I have female hamster , she is 1year and 10 months old . Before 3-4 days I noticed that she doesn't eating so I take her to the vet . He told me that she has an abccess (next to her tail .. near her feet) She gave her antibiotics . Today the vet told me that she is not getting better and he can't help her.I think she have a chance to recover , yesterday she started to eat!Can I smear the abccess with something to help her - rivanol , chamomile(the abscesser is swollen and pus is flowing)

Thanks for reaching out about Galya. You can clean the abscess are with a warm, moistened cloth or cotton tipped applicator. Topical medications are often ingested and can cause gastrointestinal upset, so not recommended. Try clipping the fur around the open lesion to lessen contamination. Continue with the oral antibiotics if hamster appropriate. Providing heat support in the 75 F range could give some aid, not letting it get too cold. If this veterinarian can't help you, find one who can. Good luck.
