My dog has thread stuck after pooping. Is the leftover thread dangerous?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 7 years and 5 months old | 21 lbs

After Nugget pooped, she would stand still & not move at all so I went to check on her & found out that a little bit of poop was hanging on her anal. So I tried to clean the poop & I found like a really thin plasticky thread stuck in her anal. I tried to pull it out but every time I tried to pull she would tighten her anal so it wouldn't pull out all the way so I just cut the thread. So the thread is still stuck in the anal. Is she going to be ok? Is the leftover thread going to cause problem?

You did the right thing by cutting the thread. NEVER pull on a string or thread like that. If it is threaded back through her intestines it can cut through. Because this may be the case, I would get her checked by your vet as soon as possible, especially if she starts showing signs of sickness, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc.
