My beagle has a spot on her head. What could this skin issue be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 24 lbs

Any idea what this is on my beagle’s head? She does have a history of skin issues due to allergies but I don’t think that’s what this is. Otherwise happy 9yo female. Attends daycare and is current on all shots. No meds. Noticed a small spot on Monday and got home from a work trip to the attached pics.

It's hard to tell from a picture. It could be a bacterial or fungal infection. Mites are also possible since she goes to daycare. I would have Emma checked out by a vet on Monday. A skin scrape and tape prep with examination under a microscope would help determine what is going on. Until then, you can put some Neosporin on it and try to keep her from rubbing or itching it. She may need to wear an e-collar.
