My cat has a scabbing scratch on her forehead. Vet or home care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old | 12 lbs

Hi. I just had a questionn about a scratch I saw on my cat's forehead, near the brow bone. I'm not sure if she was bitten or scratched by another cat or if it could be an allergy. It looks like a wound that is scabbing, and I'm not sure whether to bring her to the vet or just clean it up with some antiseptic liquid.

It's hard to say without a picture or examining Pippa. I would say use your best judgement. An allergy wouldn't present as a scratch. If it doesn't appear to heal in a few days, or if additional symptoms develop, she should definitely get checked out by the vet. Don't pick the scab off. Be careful not to get any antiseptic cleaners in the eye.
