Why can't my senior dog stand up? Her back leg seems paralyzed.

My dog, she's 13 years old and her back leg seems to be paralyzed. I woke up this morning to her crying and she can't stand up.

Ginger needs to be examined by the veterinarian quickly. It sounds like she is in pain. A sudden paralysis can indicate a spinal injury, a slipped disc, an infection in the spine or a cancer. She will need an exam and likely x-rays to know what can be done and so that she receives medicine to feel better. I hope she feels better quickly.

    It could be there is a problem with Ginger's spine or hips causing this weakness. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure if this can be treated or not is to have her seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose the cause, and can discuss treatment options with you. Please take her into the vet in the morning. Best of luck.
