What to do for a white bump on my dog's eye until the vet opens?

Hello! I just noticed this small white bump on my pugs eye, can you help diagnose it? My vet is closed atm as it is the middle of the night where I am.

Lesions like this can be a few things including a skin tumor, an ingrown hair, an infection or a blocked pore. You may monitor this lesion for the next week. Protect the area from scratching or rubbing with an elizabethan collar if needed and you may apply a warm (not hot) compress twice a day for 5 minutes. Check the lesion every day. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Poor Levon. This could be exactly that. If it has a white head, it may just be a pustule or small local infection. This could just be because of a skin infection, allergies, or even a ant/bug bite. If he is bothered by it or multiple pustules come up or if this one doesn’t go away, then I would have your vet look at it. Since it is so close to the eye, I wouldn’t medicate it as I am afraid some might get into the eye. Keep watching it closely. Any changes or if it isn’t going away I would take him in. I noticed my 2yr old stafforshire terrier has this small white bump near the corner of his eye. It's not bothering him and there is no discharge.
It looks like a little pustule or cyst. Since it is not bothering him, you could monitor it for a few days and see if it changes. You could also apply a warm washcloth compress to the area and see if that helps. Otherwise, have a vet take a look at it to see if he needs an antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory to treat.

Hello, and thank you for your question. The initial bump/growth may be a meibomian gland adenoma, or a chalazion, which are benign growths that often need to be removed surgically due to the irritation it causes to the eye. I suspect the recent blinking and tearing are due to an eye infection, possibly caused by irritation from the bump. This definitely warrants a visit to the vet as soon as possible, as I worry about any damage to the cornea which can worsen the problem quickly, especially if he is scratching at it. In the meantime, you can try applying a warm wet compress to the eye for 5-10 minutes at a time. I would also put an e-collar (cone) on his head to prevent scratching of the eye. I found a pink small bump under my Malteses eye. What do I do?
Unfortunately, without physically touching the lesion and probably doing some diagnostic testing, it is really difficult to say what it may or may not be. Unknown lumps are usually one of the following: bug bites, masses, abscesses, tumors, or cystic structures. Needle aspiration will typically provide a great deal of information and lead us to the presumptive diagnosis. If it has any sort of communication with the eyelid, then it is most likely a benign mass known as a Meibomian Adenoma. These are not typically problematic unless they are touching the eye's surface. If it remains the same size and no other problems are noted, you don't necessarily have to do anything at this time. However, if it starts to become bothersome I would get it checked out some time. Hello, My name is Dr. Elizabeth and I am happy to help. That may be a sty but it could also be an infected hair follicle, blocked pore or other type of infection. If it's still there on Monday or if Caesar is still rubbing at it, I recommend to have him examined. In the mean time, have Caesar wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If he accidently scratches his eye while rubbing at it, he'll need to go to the vet before Monday. Have him wear the collar at all times. You can apply a warm compress to it every couple of hours for 10 minutes. This might help it to come to a head. If it ruptures, gently clean it with water and protect it from rubbing. If it's not dried up by Monday, also have him examined. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out any time.

It could be something like a pimple but it could also be some sort of a skin mass. Pets can get many types of lumps and bumps. Most of these tumors will be benign but some will be malignant and you can't tell by looks. This can help if it is a pimple. If the mass is still there in two weeks, I recommend to have it checked out to be safe. The doctor may recommend to aspirate the mass to examine the cells under a microscope. That is one of the best ways to know what it is and if further action is needed. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

My dog has a pimple by his eye

It's possible that this lesion is a cyst, a benign or malignant mass, inflammation from localized skin issues (e.g. mange, ringworm, infection, etc.), or even something as simple as an insect bite. The only definitive way to determine the cause of this type of lesion is with some diagnostic testing. The good news is that it doesn't look significantly irritated now or the cause of any major concern. You can try using a warm compress over this lesion twice a day for a few days to see if it gets smaller or resolves altogether. However, if the lesion grows more, opens up with any discharge, or seems to cause Marty to be itchy, then it should be checked out by your vet. I hope that everything goes well!

My 18 mo old mixed boxer has a “pimple like” bump that appeared on her lower eyelid. She is fine with me touching it, it doesn’t seem to bother her. But it has increased in size in the last 2-3 weeks.
The most common reason that we will see white bumps develop on the edge of the eyelid is something called a chalazion. This is similar to a stye, but is not generally inflamed or painful. Sometimes we will use antibiotic eye drops or ointment if the area is red, but they will normally resolve on their own (but this can sometimes take a couple of months). Sometimes using a warm washcloth on the area for a few minutes twice a day can help, but some dogs do not tolerate this well. If the area continues to get larger, appears red or irritated, or does not resolve in a couple of months, I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine it. Good luck! Ideally, he can be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause and provide the appropriate treatment. If he is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. It looks like she has a meibomian gland cyst. As long as she isn't squinting and/or the eye is red/irritated then you can soak a washcloth in warm water and apply it over the eyelid several times a day and see if it resolves. Otherwise, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet might prescribe an antibiotic and/or corticosteroid to treat. Sometimes, surgery is needed, especially if the bump is rubbing against the cornea.
