Why is my dog drinking so much water? Raw kibble or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 1 day old | 35 lbs

I am getting Kira checked out soon but want to see if I can get opinion a couple days before. So she drinks a lot of water. For her weight I read she should drink around 5 cups. She’ll drink closer to 16 so a gallon a day. Could this be due to her eating only raw kibble? My other dog doesn’t act this way, or does it sould more like an underlying issue? Should I try soaking her food before hand?

A fluid intake 3 times normal would not be expected with dry kibble, especially if your other dog doesn't drink to the same degree. A urine exam and blood tests are recommended as soon as possible to rule underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease
