How to tell if the stray cat I found is pregnant? What are the signs?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female

So found a cat in my yard a couple weeks ago and brought her in. She doesn't seem over 2 years old and she has a little weight to her. I thought maybe she was running around the neighborhood eating too much but her stomach is kind of firm. I was wondering if you could tell me how to see if she is pregnant.

You may see swollen, pink nipples, some "morning sickness", increased appetite, weight gain and a distended abdomen. Without a physical exam though, a determination of pregnancy cannot be made definitively. Ideally, she should be examined by a veterinarian. An abdominal x-ray or ultrasound can confirm pregnancy.

    Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Skittish is cute! Cats are pregnant for about 60 days so if you’ve had her longer than that then I doubt she’s pregnant. Also if she’s showing symptoms of being in heat then she’s not pregnant. If the 60 days isn’t up wait until then and if it’s obvious she isn’t pregnant then have her spayed. An X-ray would also help. The signs you are describing certainly could be consistent with pregnancy, but Mia could also be suffering from a false pregnancy. This is when a cat shows the signs of being pregnant, but actually is not. The only way to know for sure if she is pregnant or not is to have her seen by a vet. Without examining her in person or knowing when she was bred, it would be hard to determine. Since she was found and is very skinny, it would be best to bring her to your vet anyway so they can confirm the pregnancy, treat any health issues and make sure the kittens are doing OK. If she is far enough along, they may be able to take an X-ray to determine how many kittens to expect and provide a rough estimate of her due date. Signs a cat is nearing labor can include looking for a place to nest, changes in appetite, restlessness, temperature changes, waxing of the nipples (producing a waxy milk-like substance) visible contractions, etc. If you see these signs then she may be going into labor. If she doesn't produce a kitten after several hours, seems exhausted, or in severe distress, seeking veterinary care is best to make sure there aren't any complications.

She very well may be pregnant. Her belly does look abnormally big there. Watch for signs of pregnancy such as mammary gland engorgement, continued weight gain, increase in appetite. Also you can have her seen by your vet for an exam to check for fetal heartbeats or to identify the fetal skulls, via radiograph (as early as 45 days gestation). If she is suspected to be pregnant then it's also best to feed her kitten food which is going to satisfy her high calorie requirements and ensure she makes a good supply of milk for her kittens. Thank you for posting pictures! She does have a fairly large abdomen but the nipples do not look like she’s pregnant. Typically cats are pregnant from 58-65 days and when closer to 60 days start to show signs of nipple development. There can be other causes of distended abdomens, however, like fluid in the belly or uterus, or growth of other organs. I would recommend taking her to a vet for an exam and possible X-rays. If she’s pregnant for over 45 days they will be able to see skeletons in her uterus. Just like with people, pregnant pets should see doctors to make sure they are healthly enough to deliver naturally. Good luck and kisses to Skye!

About a month ago my cat was in heat, the neighbors male cat snuck in my apartment and now my cats belly is getting big. How can I tell if Shea pregnant without paying a high vet bill?
You can try to feel for moving kittens by placing your hand on her belly. That is about the only way you can tell without seeing your vet. Also if her mammary glands get enlarged this is another clue. Feed her kitten food now if you suspect that Nibbles is pregnant to help her produce an appropriate milk supply, and continue this diet until she weans all the kittens (around 3-4 weeks of age).

We adopted this stray cat recently and we are doubtful that it is pregnant. Please help us identify if we're expecting kittens from Coco if possible from these pictures :)
From these pictures it does appear that Coco’s abdomen is slightly distended. However, there can be many other reasons for abdominal distention such as fluid in the belly, heart disease, false pregnancy and/or intestinal parasites. My best recommendation would be to take Coco in the vet to be examined. This would give you a better idea of her overall health and they may be able to determine if she is pregnant. How do u know a cat is pregnant
Hi, if your cat has mated with another cat there is a 99% chance that she is pregnant. If you don’t know if your cat has mated pregnancy can be detected on physical examination after the first half of pregnancy and sometimes earlier on with an ultrasound. The best thing would be to have her checked over and your vet will be able to advise you accordingly. Hope this helps !

I have had a stray well I think it's stray cat coming to mine for 3months now when she first came she was small and skinny now she's really big to the point I think she is pregnant how can I tell if she is preganant and what is best for me to do
A suddenly big belly is definitely suspicious of pregnancy. I cannot tell from these pictures and usually I need to feel the kittens or see them with ultrasound to be sure. One thing you can check for is if the mammary glands are full. This happens in late pregnancy. If she looks like she has some growth in her tees, then that is a good sign that she's pregnant. My opinion is that she should be spayed to prevent/terminate pregnancy. This may sound harsh, but there is really big problem with feral cat overpopulation. Also, many of the kittens often die in the feral environment. In the end, it's your choice, but all the feral cats should be spayed/neutered at some time. Many rescue organizations and shelters will often help with costs in spaying/neutering feral cats, so it's a good idea to give them a call. I hope that helps and all goes well with Dotty.

Check if she has milk in one or more of her teats. If so, it is possible she has kittens. When she comes to eat, catch her and take her to your vet for an exam. and then let her go again so she can go feed her kittens. She may have another problelm with her abdomen or she may have retained a kitten. So this is serious.

A cat's nipples will turn very pink when she is pregnant. If she was with a male and her heat stopped, she is likely pregnant. You do not need to feed her extra until the 40th day of pregnancy. From the 40th day on the kittens will start growing exponentially and you can start feeding kitten food. Royal Canin mother and kitten is a very good food for this purpose. I suggest you have her pregnancy tested around the 43rd to 45 th day at your vet's.
