Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 4.33 lbs
I have an appointment for my rabbit to be seen tomorrow for an ear infection. I don’t know when it started exactly but the symptoms have intensified a lot in the last few days (head shaking, hot ears, teeth grinding, shoving his foot into his ear, one ear up one down, doesn’t want to be handled). Will he be okay for another day? I’m worried about neuro stuff. He is eating, drinking, and pooping. There are no emergency vets in my area that see rabbits and tomorrow was the soonest appt I could get

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Momo. You are doing the right thing by having him seen. You are correct that rabbits can develop neurological problems from ear disease. However, for neurological signs to develop, the infection needs to be deep in the inner or middle ear. This commonly is a sequelae to a respiratory tract infection. The signs you are describing seem to be related to the external ear canal. Hopefully this can be treated without problems. I hope this information helps!
