My dog barks and bites family. Does yelling make his aggression worse?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

I am living with my perent right now and they got a small dog that barks and bites me when I come down and it's only when mom or my dad is home. I've done some research and found out that if he is acting aggressive towards me my mother shouldnt be yelling at him and calling his name. I've been trying to prove her that but she doesnt listen to me. So this is why I am trying to get a real information from veterinarian. Is that true?

Yelling at him certainly won't help the situation. It is possible that the yelling could perpetuate the bad behavior against you. You can try to start offering Max treats when you come into the room so that he learns to be excited to see you.
