Why is my senior Frenchie losing weight but eating and drinking a lot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 21 lbs

My 10 years old Frenchie is eating well and very active but lost weight. She lost weight from 28 to 20 pound. I haven’t changed her food for years and now after our exam at the vet clinic I introduced her Hills puppy food after my vet recommended. Now she is drinking way too much water. I was feeding her Open Farm Lamb for two years. I did some blood test, would love to have some suggestions on what else I need to do for my dog? I also did a poop test and she does not have worms. Thank you!

That is significant weight loss. There must be an underlying issue. Just because the blood tests were relatively normal does not mean there isn't a problem. Unexplained weight loss in the face of a normal to increased appetite suggests primary GI disease, EPI (pancreatic issue) or occult neoplasia (cancer). I suggest x-rays and or abdominal ultrasound as the next step.
