My dog licked a MacBook charger. Is she at risk of electric shock?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog licked the end of my MacBook computer charger (the metal piece that plugs into the computer) - can she get shocked/electrocuted from this? She acts okay right now but is it possible that she still felt something from licking it?? Should I be worried?

Hi and thanks for posting. While it is possible to become electrocuted from tampering with electronic devices, cords, etc, just licking the charger is probably not enough to cause an electrical shock. Usually patients that have been electrocuted exhibit sudden behavioral changes and may even have trouble breathing or exhibit burns on their mouth from chewing on cords or other areas of their body. Unless Rocky is experiencing sudden changes in behavior, breathing, etc, I don't think a lick on the Mac charger is cause for alarm.
