My dog's eye is swollen. Will Augmentin help or are drops better?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 4 years and 2 months old

He is already on augmentin and terbinafine coz of bacterial skin infection and now as my finger by mistake poke into his eye and his eyelid has been swelled so does this augmentin works for eye lid swelling and eye infection? Also if dog has an eye infection or conjunctivitis so do dogs need oral pill to clear eye infection or only eye drops needed to clear up the eye infection?

Hi and thanks for posting. Topical eye medications are really best for eye infections including conjunctivitis and other conditions of the eye. The Augmentin would help treat any skin infection around the eyelid or skin surrounding the eye. An accident such as finger poke in the eye can cause injury to the cornea of the eye which will need to be diagnosed with a vet eye exam. Specific eye medications are used to treat various conditions of the eye such as corneal injuries so it is best to see your vet if the eye appears swollen in any way.
