Hello. I have a 9.5 year old female Shih Tzu mix. She is spayed. We have only had her 3.5 yrs. She was a rescue dog, a stray.She has lost a considerable amount of weight in the last month to 6 weeks. She was a bit on the heavy side and is now at a good size...But nothing was done to help her lose weight. She is naueaus at times, but seems to feel better after vomiting, and will then eat regularily. She is drinking well. She is happy to go for walks, and energetic as per usual (she is a quiter do

If the weight loss is more than 10% of the her body weight, this could be abnormal and should ideally checked. Gastrointestinal abnormal absorption of nutrients may be present and should be investigated. Usually chronic gastrointestinal inflammations/infections are responsible for it. I would start with a blood test and some imaging procedures of the abdomen (an ultrasound).
