Is my cat losing weight from climbing her tall cat tree for food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 6 years and 5 months old

My cat’s got a cat tree that’s 2m tall. She sleeps on the highest bit. Her food bowl is on the second highest level. And her water fountain is on the floor. She doesn’t play with the tree or outside of it at all. she only climbs it to sleep and eat. She was a bit overweight before she got the tree and now I’ve noticed she’s lost weight she looks more fit. Could the weight loss be simply because she’s been having to climb to sleep and eat?

Hello. Yes, Sofia may have lost a little weight just in adding this extra activity to her day. Making a cat move a little more each day is important, & having her work a little to get to her sleeping & feeding stations is brilliant. Good job! Thanks for using PetChoice.
