My 10-month-old cat is aggressive, biting my child. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 months and 25 days old

Hello, we got our kitten when he was 5 weeks and he had no mother. Once he was out of his infant stage he started biting a lot. We tried the water bottle, ignoring him, etc. Nothing worked. Now he is 10 months and very aggressive. He bites my daughter non stop, scratches everyone and hisses at everyone. We have been very good to him and no one hits him. I'm unsure of what to do at this point, but I sick of my daughter getting hurt. I also have a 5 month old baby. Do I get rid of the cat?

You can consider re-homing him if that is what you would like to do. Your other option is to take him to the vet and speak to them about getting him some behavioral modification medication that he can take daily which will hopefully calm him. You should also try some Feliway diffusers and some environmental enrichment for him. If Zamboni is not neutered that may help with his aggression somewhat. Aggression in cats can be difficult as they may redirect their aggression from what is truly stressing them into something (someone) else. I would recomend Feliway diffusers throughout his area and assess his relationship with any other pets or people in the house. If it continues a vet exam to assess for pain may be helpful and sometimes medications can help. Good luck.
